Jewel Puzzle Paper Pieced Pattern

Free paper pieced pattern for 12″ finished block that includes detailed photographic instructions on how to paper piece.

Today, my new Jewel Puzzle paper pieced block pattern was featured on Sew Mama Sew!  Head over to Sew Mama Sew for the Jewel Puzzle Tutorial.

Jewel Puzzle Block

This paper pieced pattern is probably a solid intermediate level… not too hard because there aren’t a lot of intersections to match up, but a lot of pieces for a true beginner.

I made this block to use a pillow in my daughter’s new room.  I wanted something bright and cheerful, and I think this block does just that.

I also made a version of this block for my Red & White Sampler.  It amazes me how different these blocks look with some different fabric and different fabric placements.

If you make this block, please let me know because I would love to see your work!  I’ve started an Instagram tag for #jewelpuzzle block, or you can email me a picture.

  1. Wonderful block and congratulations on the feature! It is always fun and inspiring to see the same pattern in different colorways; I love jewel tones, but the red and white is beautiful in its simplicity, too.

  2. I love the red and white sampler colours.
I would love to set this as my bee block, but as some in the group are foundation paper beginners it might be a bit tricky. Hmmm. I have a few months to think it through.

  3. This block looks like a lot of fun. I really like the red and whit version. The WERQ Bee that I am a part of is currently doing a red and white block, so I think I’m keen to the variety of fabrics right now. I love the owl line drawing print. Is there more info about that fabric? Thanks for sharing, and congrats on the feature.

  4. Interesting block, indeed. Love your choice of fabrics – I never feel brave enough to use some of like these designs – must learn that because these look stunning.
